Gran Paradiso National Park

Located between the Aosta Valley and Piedmont, it extends over a breathtaking territory of about 70,000 hectares, where the altitudes vary from 800 meters at the valley bottom to 4,061 meters at the Gran Paradiso peak. The valleys, carved by glaciers and crossed by crystalline streams, are home to extraordinary flora and fauna. Don't miss the chance to spot the symbol par excellence of the park: the ibex. Let yourself be surprised by the numerous chamois, the whistle of the marmot, while the golden eagle and the bearded vulture return to give emotions in the Alpine sky!

The Gran Paradiso National Park has a history that revolves around the protection of the ibex.
In 1856, King Vittorio Emanuele II proclaimed these lands as a royal hunting reserve, thus contributing to the survival of this species. The sovereign also established a corps of specialized guards and developed a network of roads to protect the fauna and facilitate excursions. In 1920, Vittorio Emanuele III ceded the reserve to the Italian State, which in 1922 officially transformed it into a National Park.
